本書是為想要成為家庭／婚姻治療師的人所寫的。基於十多年來的心得，我們所提出的主體實踐治療理念乃整合個人內在心理、家庭人際關係及社會情境脈絡等三方面的知識，同時也超越了現代和後現代主義的理念對峙，認為要促成個案家庭有意義的改變，可以從個人、關係和脈絡等三方面著手，但經由主體覺察與反思而做的改變是最踏實的一種。主體實踐治療理念認為婚姻及家庭是個人成長的最佳場所，更有意識地經營這些關係是現代人必修的課題，也是促進社會和諧的不二法門；治療則是幫助個人及關係成長當代社會不可或缺的人造環境。治療師的養成是我們所關切的，我們希望治療者能學會運用自我，並依據關係發展及賦權使能的原則在治療裡及生活中實踐。
